Flower Wrapping
I started doing this last summer during wedding season and it has quickly turned into my favorite way to wrap gifts. Most often I use brown butchers paper, twine, and fake flowers that my decor has grown out of but for these two gifts I had some pretty ribbon stock piled from Christmas sales that I utilized.
Generally, I use some kind of scrap paper underneath the ribbon as I use hot glue to secure the flowers to the bow. This way, if I get any drips they hopefully fall on the scrap paper. :)
Plants!
Inspirational picure is from Harper's Bazaar. I was asked to re-create a 4 version canvas and acrylic version by a friend.
After a few hours on a Saturday this is what they ended up looking like! Definitely want to do something like this for my place, maybe on one giant canvas? We'll see :)
Puppy Pause Spay and Neutering
About a week ago I posted about updating art to make it relevant and likable for the purpose. This weekend I worked on updating some existing around and creating some new to donate for an awesome cause. A local charity, Puppy Pause, is holding an art sale to benefit spaying and neutering pups to control the furry population. I thought it was a great cause so I'm donating 3 works of art to help out!
Check out Puppy Pauses's Facebook Page!
Making Lemons into Pretty Lemonade
We all have them. The ugly pieces of art that you don't know what to do with. Well, I've figured it out, you paint over them! Not that these paintings were ugly per say...but they really didn't evoke any emotion when I looked at them, I didn't find them interesting and in my option, they were LEMONS!
So I broke out my paints and decided to do some doctoring up!
Just not feeling it. TOO tan and TOO brown!
Still haven't decided if this one has reached it's final state yet. Definitely like it more than before though!
Boring boring boring, this looks like it could be a psychedelic kitchen counter as opposed to artwork.
Still not sure about this one either. I'll call it a work in progress... the pointalism blue dots took it a little too far. Might be adding some dark and light gray drybrushing to cover some of the sand color and take away from the shapes of the dots.
UPDATE!! Sometimes I guess you have to rip it apart to make it better. Check out the updated version of how this second painting ended up:
MIX TAPE: Hand Drawn Doodle Creator's Pack & Subscription Service
I'm sooooo excited to publish my first of many to come hand drawn vector elements for invitations, party favors, labels, and everything else you can think of! I've titled it mix tape because it contains well just about everything! Visit my Creative Market store (link below) to purchase!
How did I do it? Tons and tons and tons of drawings. For this set I used a sketch pad but looking back on the project I should have gone with printer paper to get a smoother line. I used a fine tip felt tip marker and doodled away! I think the flowers were my favorite so look for a pack coming out soon dedicated to botanical doodles and frames!
The best thing about this pack is that it is the first one I've ever created. You know what that means? There are more to come! And because this is the first one I've included a subscription service called Mix Tape that guarantees with every new doodle pack I produce at least 30% of the items will get added to this creative pack. (In case you didn't know the way that Creative Market works... every time a creator updates the pack you are eligible to download the most up to date pack at no cost) (YAY!)
Anyway, get it while it's hot. (And cheap!) This vector family is only going to grow bigger as I publish more packs :D
Uncontrollable Creativity (and more Hand Painted Creator's Packs)
Painting is probably the one thing in the world I could do the rest of my life without growing bored with it. There are unlimited combinations of colors, textures, layouts, shapes, etc.. The best part about it is the way that creativity feeds off of creativity suddenly sending you spiraling into a creative utopia and not enough time! Fortunately enough for me I don't have kids (besides the cat) and I have an understanding a boyfriend, friends, and family that understand I have to hibernate in my creative cave and now and again.
Anyway, I ended up creating a handful more background packs that I'm able to share with the online community! Yayy for watercolors!
Check out the items below that I created these fun paintings with! ;)
Wild 'N Crazy Creator's Pack
I went a little nutso a couple weeks ago when Dick Blick was having a sale and I bought an array of watercolor paper, some new acrylic paints (for some reason I'm way into green and yellow right now) and some poster paints which make AWESOME watercolors.
After spending a couple days experimenting with the poster paints and different pressed watercolor paper and then editing some of the images in Photoshop, I ended up with 34 different jpeg versions of the watercolor paintings! I'm actually pretty in love with the originals (above and background on the image below). But I love that you can switch the color of the picture so easily with Photoshop's color changer.
Anyway, this is the first pack I'm releasing on Creative Market. Here's to hoping that someone can enjoy the bright wild n crazy designs!
Where can I sell my art online?
Over the past couple of weeks I've been heavily researching the different sites where artists can display their work. Not only do you need exposure but the need for individuals to want to buy the art. Meaning, they are visiting the site with intentions to buy. I've found 4 sites that I will be posting my work to in hope of generating some revenue to cover the cost of my supplies and software I use to create my digital pieces.
1. DeviantArt - Claims to be the largest online gallery and community and I believe it. It seems like the website is full of amateur artists and advanced artists alike. Sign up and posting to the site is relatively easy although the desktop/laptop user interface and navigating around the site is a little sketchy.
- Upon uploading a file it will be made available as a photo, canvas print, or poster print, or as a digital download.
- Once a sale is made the seller retains 80% of the sale price and does not need to take any other action.
2. Saatchi Art - You've probably seen this on Pinterest if you browse the artwork pins regularly. Saatchi allows you to upload your artwork in a jpeg format and their mobile app even won a Webby award this year. The site traffic is pretty good and the art available for purchase must be reviewed before releasing to sell in addition to person verification. (You must provide some kind of scanned government issued ID to become a seller.) The jpeg upload must be at least 1200px by 1500px and less than 50MB.
- Upon uploading the file you must provide a price for the piece. Unfortunately, the lowest you can go is $100, so hopefully your painting is worth it!
- Depending on the scale of the image that is uploaded, Saatchi will recommend different types of printing you can offer. These will be available as you create the listing.
- Once a sale is made the seller retains 70% of the sale price and must package and send the art, if it was the art that sold. If it was another item, Saatchi takes care of the printing and shipment and the seller will retain 70% of the PROFIT (after the cost of the item has been subtracted from the sale price).
- Another caveat: The seller must include a certificate of authenticity for the completed artwork when shipping original artwork
3. Vango Art - Vango is quickly becoming my favorite platform to sell on. It's easy to upload. They require you to submit a hefty description of the item (so it cuts out a lot of the fluff from other similar sites where people just copy and paste descriptions.) And, the art must be approved before selling. The jpeg upload must be at like 2048px wide. Currently, Vango does not support selling prints of artwork, only the originals. Also nice, Vango provides a prepaid shipping label so all you have to pay for is the packaging to send your print!
- Unfortunately, this one also has VERY limited price points. As sellers join the site you are restricted to $100 and $250 price points. As you make more sales you unlock higher price point levels. Cool if you consider your artwork worth within the starting price points!
- The artwork must be approved after upload for sale. This includes choosing three out of four talking point for your piece that Vango provides.
- Also, with Vango the seller retains 70% of the sale price.
- You can only have 5 pieces of art uploaded to sell at a point in time. Once one sells you upload another.
4. Etsy - I find most people are familiar with Etsy when speaking of handmade and original items. Etsy has it all, knitting, woodwork, leather items, paper goods, everything! Etsy is the only site that charges you to create the listing (currently at $.20) and then charges again when you actually sell something. For the last couple of years I have sold various mediums on Etsy and as the years go buy it seems like it is harder and harder to not get lost in the crowd. They also have the option to promote individual listings which is nice, but you pay per click, which can add up quick!
- You can put any price on your items! (Though, I think there may be a minimum price of $1).
- The seller retains 96.5% (!!!!!) of the sale price when the item sells.
Currently, those are the 4 platforms I am using to get my artwork noticed and interest individuals in purchasing. Happy selling!
*all information in the above article has been updated as of June 19th, 2015. Please investigate current pricing and policies at the respective websites before continuing deciding to sell with them.

I have always struggled to land on one specific style. A style that I could own. Recently, as I have been playing around with drawing and painting I have seen two distinct styles emerge.

not wanting to get my freshly manicured nails destroyed. I pride myself on my finger painting abilities, and with a fresh nail paint job I couldn't dabble. I love how the paint squishes between the pads of my fingers and the canvas, but alas, I spent an hour painting these suckers last night and they are staying nice for at least another day :) So instead, I opted for the good old brushes and went to work fixing this ugly painting up!
